Harold L. “Barney” O’Field, 94, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at The Brier Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Ronceverte, WV.
He was born July 26, 1922, in New Boston, OH, son of Mary McLeod and John O’Field.
Barney was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Force as an airplane engine mechanic. As the war went on, he transferred to the infantry so he could be of more service and was sent to central Europe. He was a member of the American Legion Post 69.
Barney was a member of the Lewisburg United Methodist Church in Lewisburg, WV, and the Methodist Men. He was a 64-year member of the Mount Sterling, KY, Masonic Lodge 23, A.F.&A.M. After his military career, he spent his years as supervisor of the Ashland Oil & Refining Company, where he retired. He started working for the company after he graduated from high school, this was the only job he had once his three years of service during World War II ended.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bill O’Field; and granddaughter, Kristy Fisher.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Betty O’Field; daughter, Patty Warren and husband, Doug; daughter-in-law, Donna O’Field; grandchildren, Laura Morton and husband, Ben, Beth Hundley and husband, Chris, Carrie Withrow and husband, Tommy, and Steve O’Field and wife, Carri; and great-grandchildren, Alex and Kate Morton, Drew, Nathan, and Jacob Hundley, John, Grace, and Quinn Withrow, and Ashlyn Fisher.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Rosewood Cemetery.
