PRINCETON, W.Va. (WVDN) – Just as they did the day before in a blowout win over Shady Spring, the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans jumped out to an early lead enroute to a convincing 12-3 win over the Princeton Lady Tigers on Tuesday, March 21.
The Spartans scored eight runs in the first two innings. Lindsey Black, Lilly Carola and Jenna Groves had RBI singles, then Olivia Plybon stole home soon after and East led 5-0 after one.
A Black 2-run triple ignited the Spartans in the second as East took total control of the contest. She would later score on an RBI groundout by Carola.
East put up their final four runs of the evening on an impressive 3-run home run by Gracie Gumm in the fourth inning before the game was called after five.
Josi Ervin got the start on the pitcher’s mound and went 2.2 innings and did not allow a hit. She struck out six batters and was credited with the victory. Carola came on in relief and had six strikeouts and gave up three runs.
Hayden Jones was the losing pitcher for the Tigers.
Much like their counterparts, the Spartan baseball team, the Lady Spartans seem to be finding their groove early on after the season opening loss to the Patriots from Indy.
Every Spartan that batted got a hit. Black went 3-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Alanis McClary and Olivia Plybon each had two hits. Gumm had three RBIs on her homer.
East moved to 2-1 on the young season.
