Nancy Hern Ryder, 90, passed away in Beckley, WV, on Wednesday, May 3, 2017.
She was born April 22, 1927, in Lewisburg, WV.
Nancy graduated from Lewisburg High School in Lewisburg. Her college career began at Greenbrier College for Women in Lewisburg. She graduated from Concord College, where she played basketball and received her bachelor’s degree in education.
Mrs. Ryder, a lifelong resident of Greenbrier County, WV, taught for 30 years in the Greenbrier County school system, coached cheerleading, and was a fourth generation farmer. Nancy belonged to Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority, West Virginia Farm Bureau, NEA, and WVEA. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church of Lewisburg.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, David and Lester Hern; granddaughter, Ruth Allen; son-in-law, Dallas McGinnis; sister-in-law, Marguerite Miles; and brothers-in-law, Todd Stone, and Richard, Leon, and Charles Ryder.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harold C. Ryder of Lewisburg; daughters, Debra Allen and husband, Darrell, and Rebecca McGinnis; grandchildren, Erin McGinnis, and Seth, David, Andrew, Michael, and Katherine Allen; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Chris Kiene; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Stone, Marlene Ryder, and Suzanne Ryder; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be conducted on Monday, May 8, 2017, from 11 AM-1 PM at the Calvary United Methodist Church of Lewisburg.
The memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Monday at the church, with burial following at the church cemetery with the Rev. Emory Hanna officiating.
