“It’s worth going through a little bit of discomfort to avoid a lot of pain later on.” Such is the attitude of a local breast cancer survivor, 8 years following her diagnosis of a malignant nodule and successful radiation treatment. Teena Porterfield, of Ronceverte, was referring to the mild uncomfortable feeling during a mammogram screening versus the pain of discovering and treating cancer in more advanced stages.
