The second January meeting of the Greenbrier County Commission was held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. Several meetings were scheduled for the morning with the regular Commission meeting sandwiched between the others.
County Fiduciary Cindy Alley presented a dozen estates for closure. When the voting to accept Alley’s recommendations as presented, new Commissioner Blaine Philips requested to recuse himself from voting on estates based on his previous involvement in the bond industry. So, the votes for estate closures were made by Commissioners Tammy Tincher and Lowell Rose.
In other financial business, a total of $251,582.86 was transferred from savings to checking for payouts on the county’s arts and recreation grants, funded by the county bed tax.
The bid for a generator for the new expanded courthouse complex was awarded to Greenbrier Technologies for $475,497.02. After reviewing the bids, there were some issues that were addressed and corrected, and Greenbrier Technologies President Bill Lenherr was present to answer any questions the Commission had.
“The lowest bid did prevail,” Tincher said.
One of the issues in this bid process had involved coordination with the gas company, and a meeting between Lenherr and the gas company representative was scheduled following the Commission meeting.
According to Rose, “This will make sure everybody is on the same page.”
Following the financial business, the Commission approved the hiring of two new county employees: Day Report Center case manager Amanda Massie and 911 center telecommunicator Mikayla Brown.
The Commission also approved Joanna Kiddle to fill a vacancy on the Planning Commission. Philips said that Kiddle attended the last meeting of the Planning Commission and seemed very interested in the business of the meeting and this showed a sincere interest in participating.
It was also announced at the meeting that on Jan. 26, Rose and Philips were planning to go with county project manager Matt Ford to view the work on the Meadow River Trail project.
The next County Commission meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m.
