Leon Palmer Baker, 66, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, went home to be with the Lord and his son, Justin, on Saturday, December 26, 2015, at his home following a short illness.
Born July 19, 1949, in Ronceverte, WV, he was the son of Leonard and Macie Baker.
Leon was retired from the Greenbrier County Board of Education as a bus driver. He was a long-time member of Wild Meadow Baptist Church and served on the board of deacons and was the church pianist.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his son of 18 years, Justin Baker; his paternal grandparents, Fred and Beulah Pence Baker; and maternal grandparents, John G. and Virgie Vines Isom.
Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Jo Ann Baker; son, Michael Leon Baker of White Sulphur Springs; family pet, Buddy; two brothers, Earl Baker and wife, Linda, of White Sulphur Springs and Robert Baker and wife, Pat, of Smith Mountain Lake, VA; one sister, Glemma Woodrum and husband, David, of Ronceverte, WV; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at Wild Meadow Baptist Church with Pastor Roger McDaniel and the Rev. Lowell O’Dell officiating. Burial will follow at Mapledale Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12-2 PM on Tuesday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Woodrum, Matthew Baker, Billy Joe Clonche, Donnie Graham, Delmas Graham, Chase Graham, Cody O’Dell, and Cody Lester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wild Meadow Baptist Church.
