William “Bill” James Bowes, 63, of Crawley, WV, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, after a long battle with cancer.
Bill retired after 23 years of service at The Greenbrier hotel in the engineering department and the upholstery shop. He was a member of Local 1182 West Virginia Labor Union. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, retired football referee, and football, NASCAR, and golf fan. As a youth, Bill attended Wild Meadow Baptist Church in White Sulphur Springs, WV, and was recently saved and attended Big Clear Creek Baptist Church in Rupert, WV.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. Bowes and Sarah Huffman Bowes; his brother, Dwight “Ike” Bowes; and two nephews, Anthony Bowes and Timothy Bowes.
He is survived by his wife, Verna Bowes; two children, Leah and Joseph “J.J.” Bowes; his faithful dog, Shadow; two brothers, Joseph Huffman and wife, Mary Lou of Lewisburg, WV, and Alan Bowes and wife, Wilma, of Muddy Creek Mountain, WV; three sisters, Anna Bratton and husband, Howard, of Crows, VA, Dolores Sanford and husband, Rick, of Muddy Creek Mountain, and Nina Bowes of Muddy Creek Mountain; sister-in-law, Pam Bowes of Rupert; aunt, Frances Fraley of White Sulphur Springs; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
In keeping with his wishes, Bill was cremated, and a memorial service will be held Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Big Clear Creek Baptist Church in Rupert at 2 PM with Pastor Glen Kuhn officiating.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service to visit with the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Bill’s memory be made to the Big Clear Creek Baptist Church building fund.
