Alvin Thomas “Tommy” McLean, 90, formerly of White Sulphur Springs, WV, died August 25, 2014, in the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX, after an extended illness.
A son of the late Rufus McLean of Blair, TX, and Beulah Childers of Ovalo, TX, he was born January 9, 1924, in View, TX.
He was a member of View Baptist Church in View and had attended Woodforest Presbyterian Church in Houston for the last several years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Houston, and his hobbies included painting, coin collecting, woodworking, and collecting antique model cars.
He served in World War II in the Navy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ila Mae McLean in August 2009; his brother, John Childers in 1997; and grandson, John Cline in 2004.
Survivors include his sister, Loys Little of Abilene, TX; three children, Sharon Wellslager and John McLean, both of Houston, and Stephen McLean of Loxahatchee, FL; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no funeral services as he donated his body to the University of Texas Medical School Willed Body Program in Houston.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs at a later date.
