Russell Lee Pomphrey, 82, of Ronceverte, WV, passed away Friday, September 19, 2014, at his home.
He was born February 17, 1932, in Pickaway, WV, son of the late Thomas Owen and Sally Jenkins Pomphrey.
Mr. Pomphrey worked for Hercules and most recently for Wal-Mart. He was of the Methodist faith and attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Pickaway. Mr. Pomphrey was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War aboard the USS Ajax.
Mr. Pomphrey was a dedicated family man. He loved his grandchildren dearly. He also loved his associates with whom he worked at Wal-Mart and the feeling was mutual.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Hinkle Pomphrey; a son, Don Lee; a daughter, Launa Pearl; a granddaughter, Tammy Bostic Mcie; and brothers, Earl, Buster, and Charles.
He is survived by a daughter, Sarah Bostic (Fred) of Ronceverte; sisters, Betty Harvey of Roanoke, VA, and Anna Firebaugh (Dale), also of Roanoke; granddaughter, Jennifer Rider (Luke); grandson, Freddy Bostic; great-grandchildren, Evan Bostic, Lakene Flenner (Brandon), and Trista Mcie; great-great-granddaughter, Ellie Brielle Flenner; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte with Pastor Stewart Farley officiating.
Friends may visit from 2 PM until time of the service at the funeral home.
