Virginia Thomas Jones was born to this world on December 28, 1919, to Fredrick L. and Leafy W. Thomas in Charleston, WV, and blessed us with her being until her passing on Saturday, July 12, 2014, after a short illness. She will now join her beloved husband, Roy H. Jones Jr.; son, Roy H. Jones III; and brother, Robert S. Thomas, in heaven.
Ginny was an alumni of Charleston High School (1937), Hollins College, and WVU (1941, B.A. economics), where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. In business, Virginia was active in the coal industry as past president of the Courtney Company and secretary of Midvale Colliery Company.
Over the course of her life, Ginny and Roy primarily lived in Charleston and Lewisburg, WV, but traveled frequently. She was active in the Summit Garden Club of Charleston and the Lewisburg House and Garden Club.
Ginny is survived by her brother, Fredrick L. Thomas Jr.; and daughterin- law, Vicki E. Jones. She was a much beloved Ninny to her grandson, James E. Jones and wife, Tracy; and greatgranddaughter, Teagan R. Jones; granddaughter, Sara B. Jones and fiance, Shawn Freeman; and his daughter, Aleks.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Old Stone Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg with the Rev. Dexter Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, July 15, at McCraw Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
