James G. Sears Jr., 64, of Union, WV, passed away Friday morning, May 9, 2014, at his home following a long illness.

He was born at Union on November 27, 1949, a son of Anna Mae Dowdy Sears of Union and the late James Garfield Sears Sr.

Mr. Sears was a cabinet maker, of the Christian faith, and a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie, and a sister, Debbie.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a daughter, Barbara Vandegrift and husband, Paul Jr., of Hollywood, WV; a son, Sheldon Sears and wife, Sonja, of Gap Mills, WV; two grandchildren, Allison Vandegrift of Hollywood and Sheldon Sears Jr. of Gap Mills; five brothers and sisters, Darlene, Linda, Billy, Ann, and Charlene; and a favorite aunt, Reddy Allen.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery at Union.

Friends may call at the funeral home in Union from 6-8 PM on Monday, May 12.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the West Virginia Honor Guard.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at grovesfuneralhome.com.

Groves Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
