A Smithers man was arrested on the evening of Tuesday, February 23, in connection with a January fire that occurred on Laird Street. Donald Eugene Naylor, Jr., 56, of Smithers has been charged with first-degree arson.
On Wednesday, February 24, Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley released the following statement regarding the incident:
“”On January 28, the Fayette County 911 Center received notification of a structure fire on Laird Street in Smithers. An investigation conducted by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department revealed that a subject had poured kerosene around the inside of the residence and ignited the fire.
Donald Naylor is now charged with the felony offense of 1st Degree Arson. He will now await court proceedings.”
Donald Eugene Naylor, Jr. is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail where he is awaiting arraignment.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind the public that all defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
