The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources has identified 228 new cases of COVID-19, and confirmed 4 additional deaths attributed to the virus within the last 24-hours.
Among those confirmed deceased are a 78-year-old Berkeley County man, a 64-year-old Webster County man, a 76-year-old Raleigh County woman and a 77-year-old Kanawha County man.
In a statement posted on the DHHR’s website, Cabinet Secretary Bill Crouch said, “With profound sadness, we share this tragic news of more lives lost to COVID-19. We join the families in mourning the passing of these West Virginians.”
As of Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2,216 residents of the Mountain State have succumbed to complications stemming from COVID-19.
The total number of active cases has decreased for 31 consecutive days and is now down to 10,969. The daily positivity-rate is 3.18% and the cumulative positivity-rate is 5.55%. Thus far, 144,250 residents have been fully vaccinated against the virus.
The DHHR’s daily color-coded County Alert System map update shows Pocahontas County downgraded to the green designation. Greenbrier County also remains designated as green, while Monroe County remains designated as yellow.
At present, 321 West Virginians are hospitalized with COVID-19, including 82 who are being treated in area intensive care units and 39 being assisted through ventilators. W.Va. DHHR reports that 114,932 residents who had previously been infected with the virus have now recovered.
