Monroe County has been steadily designated as yellow for most of the past week on the W.Va. DHHR’s color-coded County Alert System map. Currently, the county’ infection rate is 22.06% and the percent positive is 3.31%. While the daily positivity-rate is only 1.14% as of Saturday, February 13, laboratory COVID-19 testing within the county has remained low over the last seven-days.
In addition to the low testing-numbers, during his Friday, February 12 coronavirus response media-briefing, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice called upon residents of Monroe County to register to receive the vaccine.
In light of this week’s yellow designation, Monroe County Schools will be moving forward with in-person learning. However, due to recent mandates by the West Virginia Department of Education, additional scheduling changes must now be made.
In a social media post, dated Friday, February 12, Monroe County school officials said, “The WVDE recently informed county Boards of Education that we are now not permitted to use Non Traditional Instruction Days (NTID) or remote days for the week of spring break. Currently, we have five of these NTIDs scheduled for the week of Spring break (April 5 – 9).
We have five Out of School (OSE) days scheduled at the end of the year that we could move to spring break week, so we do have some options to consider.”
School officials are asking that parents complete a survey to help determine what Monroe County should do for spring break week. The survey is available on Monroe County Schools Facebook page.
In other school news, Monroe County’s next food pickup for home-school or virtual students has been scheduled for Wednesday, February 17. Pickup will be available between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Those wishing to pick up a food bag must sign up by Monday, February 15 at 11:00 a.m. at tinyurl.com/yc22wllu.
