Q: Where can I register to receive a COVID vaccine?
A: Register online at vaccinate.wv.gov, or call the hotline: 1-833-734-0965.
Q: Did the list we’d been compiling for Greenbrier County residents go to the state’s pre-registration system to be integrated into a master list?
A: The state’s hotline came online Monday, January 25. In anticipation of this service becoming available, our local hotline closed for pre-registration on Friday, Jan. 22. Staff and volunteers with WVSOM are actively sorting that data and scheduling for this week’s vaccination clinic (Thursday, Jan. 2). After this week’s clinic, the remaining names will be merged with the state’s pre-registration list. If you have not received confirmation from the Greenbrier County Health Department (GCHD) or a WVSOM staff member or volunteer that you’re on the list, and have any concerns about your placement, please visit vaccinate.wv.gov or call 1-833-734-0965 to pre-register there.
Q: After the GCHD’s request yesterday that folks re-register through the state’s system, I am concerned that re-registering would put me at the back of the line. Do we know if the state is using the data they collect through vaccinate.wv.gov, such as co-morbidities, age, and profession, to prioritize who receives vaccines, or are we still operating on a first-come, first-serve basis?
A: The pre-registration system is using the collected data to sort and prioritize individuals so that they can be scheduled and notified when it is their turn to receive the vaccine. All guidance on what groups are currently eligible to be vaccinated comes directly from the state — the GCHD does not make these determinations. The guidance is very strict, and the GCHD cannot go outside of them. We are still vaccinating residents ages 65+, teachers and school service personnel ages 50+, and first responders/medical professionals. (Note: there is still no guidance on where immunocompromised residents fall on the vaccine distribution schedule.)
Q: How will I be notified of my appointment?
A: When you sign up through vaccinate.wv.gov or by calling 1-833-734-0965, you will indicate your preferred method of communication (phone, text, or email). You will be contacted through whichever means you selected as your preferred method of communication. The phone calls and text messages will come from hotline’s number — save it in your phone so you recognize it and answer it!
Q: What if I am unable to keep the appointment that’s offered to me?
A: If you decline your appointment, you WILL be kept on the list and they will circle back to you BEFORE moving on to the next target group.
Q: If I have received confirmation of my pre-registration from the local health department, is there any need for me to sign up through the state’s website?
A: No, you’re covered. You will be contacted by the GCHD or by WVSOM staff/volunteers to schedule an appointment when possible. These calls may come from strange numbers, but if you don’t answer, they do leave a message with a centralized callback number.
Q: I signed up through the state’s pre-registration system and did not receive any sort of confirmation. What do I do?
A: Within 24 hours, you should receive confirmation of account creation and pre-registration through whatever method of communication you indicated as preferable. For example, folks who signed up all throughout yesterday afternoon got their confirmation at 9:30 a.m. today. If you do not receive this confirmation within 24 hours, call 1-833-734-0965 for further assistance.
Q: I completed the very simple pre-registration process on vaccinate.wv.gov. Is any further action required on my part?
A: The creation of the account serves no purpose other than to pre-register you to receive a vaccine. You will now receive real-time updates on vaccine availability and schedule an appointment to get vaccinated as supplies allow.
