The better angels of White Sulphur Springs are coming together once again because young Jacob Armentrout needs a friend.
On the heels of the very successful and very much still ongoing “Petunia’s Tab” project, the team at Road Hog’s Barbeque, along with other White Sulphur Springs’ businesses including Ace Hardware and Greenbrier Glass, are coming together to help Jacob and his family in their time of need.
In a social media post, dated Saturday, Jan. 23, the team at Road Hog’s said, “Thank you to all the generous donors who continue to keep Petunia’s Tab going strong. We have been able to feed so many individuals and families in our community thanks to you. Enormous thanks go out to the folks with Penny Pitch who have contributed to the tab. If you’re hungry, just come in or call and tell us you want to put your meal on Petunia’s Tab.”
A video message was attached to the post in which J.W. Groseclose said, “If you’re hungry, come on in and just say ‘I need to put it on Petunia’s Tab’ and we’ll know what you mean.”
The post then goes on to say, “But…we need your help again! Six-year-old Jacob is battling cancer and has a trip to Cleveland Clinic scheduled in the next couple weeks. Help us raise the $4,500 his family needs to cover the expense. You can make donations at Road Hog’s or White Sulphur Springs Ace Hardware.”
The funds are being raised so that Jacob’s family can be together with him as he undergoes treatment at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, next month. The trip to Cleveland is scheduled for Feb. 1.
In the video message, David Bostic, co-owner of Road Hog’s, said, “The young boy needs your prayers. The mother needs to see the compassion and generosity from the community, and we know that you guys have always been that way. You’ll support him. We support him.”
Adam Whanger then explained how donations can be made.
“Right now we’ve already raised $1,400,” Whanger said. “We can do it online on our Facebook. We can do it at Ace Hardware or Greenbrier Glass, or we can come right here to Road Hog’s. And remember, there’s nothing too small. A quarter…anything helps.”
Whanger concluded by saying, “Everybody does it together.”
Once more, the better angels of White Sulphur Springs are standing guard against the demons that threaten the community, and they are asking the better angels of our nature to help us be the kind of friend that Jacob Armentrout needs right now. Anyone wishing to donate can do so by calling 304-661-2160, 304-992-2127, 304-646-5343, or 304-646-1355, or visits any of the above locations.
