SAYERS
Polly Hinkle Sayers, 89, of Roanoke, VA, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021, after a short battle with COVID-19.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Sayers; her parents, Ida and Lacey Hinkle; and two sisters, Lucille Pack and Desolee Watts.
Polly is survived by her daughter, Kim Gibb and husband, Bruce; her son, Sam Sayers and wife, Laura; four grandchildren, Kristen Cercone, Corey Gibb, Megan Ouchie, Mary Carter; and one great-grandson, Otis Cercone. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Smithson; brother, Carl Hinkle; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Polly spent her childhood in Lewisburg, WV, before moving to Roanoke where she met her husband. She worked for the C&P Telephone Company for nearly 40 years and was a devoted member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She had a zest for life and loved spending time with family and friends at Smith Mountain Lake. Polly loved to sing and would belt out a song at any given opportunity. She would sing “Country Roads” by John Denver the loudest, because of her love for her home state of West Virginia.
Polly will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to family and friends, her overwhelming generosity, and her world-famous sausage gravy. She inspired us all to find joy, laugh, and to never speak ill of others. Her insightful and infectious personality will be sorely missed.
Due to the current health crisis, there will be a private burial at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke at a later date.
Polly spent many hours volunteering at her favorite charity, the Ronald McDonald House (https://rmhc.org/donate). If you wish to honor her memory, the family suggests a donation to that organization in lieu of flowers.
