CALLISON
James “Jim” Alderson Callison, the most gifted cowboy on Anthony’s Creek, has gone to Heaven to tend the horses there for the Master on Tuesday, November 24, 2020.
He was born on December 18, 1934, in Rainelle, but spent the last 75 years on his beloved Anthony’s Creek, always saying that the only way he was leaving was in a pine box. His parents were Wyatte and Ila Skidmore Callison, who preceded him in death.
For many years, he supervised the draft horse barns at the WV State Fair and loved every minute of it. As for hunting, this was his favorite time of the year when his children, nieces, and nephews would congregate on the farm for hunting season.
Also preceding him in death were his beloved wife of 56 years, Agnes Rider Callison in 2011; brother, Howard Erman (Marceline) Callison; and sister, Emelie Cooke Hinzman.
He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Callison Howell (Kenneth) of Huntington, Patty Callison Roles (Ronnie) of Greenville, (who sacrificed their careers and time to move in with Jim and care for him for his last six months or seven months); a son, James “Travis” Callison (Sara) of King George, VA; special friend, Ethel Dixon; grandchildren, Hannah Roles and Jubal Roles of Manzinita, OR, Jacob Roles of Dutton, MT, Shila Arrowood of Cincinnati, OH, and Hope Roles Cline (Clay); and great-grandsons, Silas Lee Cline, and Conner Cline on the way; sisters, Natalie Callison Childers (George), and Nancy Camp (Lloyd), both of White Sulphur Springs; including many nieces and nephews.
Special caregivers are nephews, Mike (Kathy) Callison, Stephen (Pam) Callison, their son and daughter, Ryan Callison and Hattie Callison, Angela and Tommy Radford and their children, Jeremy (Brittany) Radford and Autumn Radford, Drema Woodrum, and a host of friends and family.
Graveside service will be conducted at Little Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Saturday, November 28, 2020, beginning at 2 p.m. with Rev. Lloyd Camp, Jim’s special friend and brother-in-law, officiating.
In light of COVID-19 restrictions, please observe social distancing guidelines for the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions may be made to Jim’s beloved “Anthony Baptist Church” at 138 Anthony Church Road, Frankford, WV 24938 where he served as a deacon.
