Just a reminder all Penny Pitch applications need to be turned back in for committee review by noon Wednesday, Nov. 25. The Penny Pitch committee meets Wednesday night to decide who will receiving help. All applications will be logged into our computer base so we can keep track of who is getting help. The list then goes to Walmart, so families can shop for the items they were approved for. If you are receiving help from Penny Pitch, you will only be allowed to check out the items that are on the list.
This year we have found a lot of families in our area who need help. We have many grandparents trying to raise and support their grandchildren on their social security checks, which is almost impossible. These grandparents are trying to keep the children from going into foster care so they can keep them with family.
It’s hard to explain to a child why or how this happened to them; they just know they are hungry, and they don’t understand why they don’t have heat in their home. They can’t take care of themselves, and they depend on people like us to make it happen for them. They can’t help their circumstances.
This Thanksgiving give thanks for your many blessings. Especially your health, money can not replace your health. If you have a roof over your head and food on your table, you are very lucky. A lot of families in our area do not have this, they are wondering what they are going to feed their children this evening. If you think these situations don’t exist, you can do an interview with Penny Pitch, that will give you a whole new outlook on how other families in our area live.
We are also thankful for people in our community that donate to Penny Pitch every year. One of our first donations, came from St. James United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs.
The letter with the check read: “It is with sadden hearts that members of St. James United Methodist Church has had to close its doors. We look to God for joy to know that the church has been handed to another congregation to carry on his word. Please accept this gift to your organization to carry on his work in our area to help others. May God bless you.”
This was a wonderful donation and we will continue to carry on the mission to help others in our community. Thank you so much for this donation.
May God bless all of you during this holiday season and keep you healthy.
We are in need of monetary donations to help make Christmas wishes come true for local children. Your donation will help a child have a toy for Christmas, a warm winter coat, a food box for the family and if they are behind on their utilities we will do what we can to help them with shut off notices to keep their heat and water turned on.
Please send your donation today to Penny Pitch, P.O. Box 494, Lewisburg, W.V. 24901, or drop it by The West Virginia Daily News office, located at 188 Foster St. Lewisburg.
