The West Virginia Department of Education updated their color-coded county map Saturday, October 3 at 5 p.m. Pocahontas, Monroe and Greenbrier Counties all remain designated as green for the week of Monday, October 5 through Friday, October 9.
A green designation means that all three counties currently have three or fewer cases of COVID-19 infection per 100,000 residents, or less than a 3% positivity-rate. Athletic and other extracurricular activities are permitted. However attendance is limited to immediate household family members and grandparents. Cheerleaders and bands may participate at home games.
Meal pick-up will continue for Monroe County students this week, with the next scheduled pick-up date being Wednesday, October 7. Food can be picked up at each school location between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Links to the necessary forms are available on Monroe County School’s website at boe.monroe.k12.wv.us, or by visiting their Facebook page.
Friday, October 9 will be a remote-learning day for all Greenbrier County students, as staff will be participating in faculty senates. Students will not report to scholls for in-person instruction on this day.
While the color-coded county map currently shows no counties to be designated as red, and only three counties designated as orange, the W.Va. Department of Education reports that there are presently 16 county schools across the state experiencing outbreaks of COVID-19.
According to the W.Va. Department of Education, an outbreak is described as two or more confirmed cases of COVID-19 among students or staff from separate households, within a 14-day period in a single classroom or core group. A total of 42 school-related cases have been confirmed.
The W.Va. Department of Education will next update the color-coded county map on Saturday, October 10, at 5 p.m.
