To Play in the West

Carols Christmas Eve
There will be the usual singing of Christmas carols under the General Lewis Hotel Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. Everyone, as well as the singers, is invited to open house at the hotel following the singing of the carols. This custom was inaugurated by the late Mr. Randolph K. Hock some 15 years ago and has been enjoyed by many throughout the years.

Shanghai Parade
For so many years that the oldest residents cannot recall its beginning, the Shanghai Parade has been a traditional fun festival of the Greenbrier County folks held in Lewisburg on New Year’s Day. You arrange and put on your exhibition, exercise imagination and add something funny, fantastic, historical or purely original and come join the fun parade. Every conceivable costume will be used this year, when the merrymakers usher in the New Year.

WVU Peach Bowl Plans
On the fifth day of Christmas, the state of West Virginia will give Georgia nearly 13,000 die-hard Mountaineer fans and a blitz of commerce officials bound to leave a good impression on the South, hoping to make Southerners eager for a summer vacation in the Mountain State. Besides the traditional float in the Peach Bowl Parade, state Commerce Commission Lysander Dudley has a few gimmicks up his sleeve. For one thing, more than 5,000 straw hats and an equal supply of poms-poms have been made for distribution at kickoff time, and each order of tickets contains the familiar “Wild Wonderful West Virginia” bumper stickers.
Nixon Gives Ultimatum
Vietnamese government sources in Saigon said President Nixon has delivered an ultimatum to the two Vietnams – either accept a peace accord on Washington’s terms or bombing of the North will continue, and all military and economic aid for the South will end.
Splashdown Today
Ending a peerless age of adventure, the last men of Apollo raced toward a Pacific Ocean splashdown today with the prize they sought — evidence the moon may have been wrecked by volcanos in relatively recent times.
