WISE

Michael Wayne Wise, 72, of Roanoke, VA, went to Heaven on December 5, 2022, following a heroic battle with cancer.

He was born in Ronceverte, WV, on May 19, 1950, to parents Russell and Virgie Wise. Mike graduated from West Virginia University in 1972 and received his BA in Accounting and Finance. He was happily married to Danielle Merchant Wise for 47 years.

Mike is survived by his children, Lindsey Norfolk (Dan) and Eric Wise (Lucy); and his grandchildren, Clark, Ned, and Ruby Norfolk.

Mike served as CFO of Delta Dental of Virginia for 20 years, before retiring in 2015. He also served on the board of directors for Luna Innovations and KlariVis.

To call Mike a philanthropist would be an understatement. His unwavering passion for giving back to the community, which was instilled by his parents, has been made more than evident by the numerous local and nonprofit boards on which he proudly served.

Mike served as board President of ABC Adoption Services, Boys & Girls Clubs of SWVA, Commonwealth Catholic Charities, and Hunting Hills Country Club. He also served on the boards of Feeding Southwest Virginia, First Tee of Roanoke Valley (founding member), Kimoyo, St. John’s Episcopal Church (Vestry), and Virginia State Golf Association, and served on the Carilion Fundraising Committee (Cancer Center). Mike was a founder of the Delta Dental Pro-Am for Kids, The Jim Barker Educational Scholarship Fund at Boys & Girls Clubs of SWVA, the Russell and Virgie Wise Scholarship Fund at the Greenbrier County Community Foundation, and Smart Smiles (Delta Dental).

A service in celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Roanoke, VA, followed by a brunch reception.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation (Virgie and Russell Wise Scholarship Fund).

Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.Oakeys.com.

Arrangements by Oakey’s Funeral Service – South Chapel, Roanoke, VA (540) 989-3131.
