ALDERSON (WVDN) – The Alderson City Council met in a regular session on Thursday, Aug. 11. During the meeting, the council discussed multiple projects, both current and upcoming.

First up on the agenda was a public meeting regarding a needed verbiage change in the floodplain ordinance.

There is an error in the ordinance that directly contradicts the zoning code. According to Mayor Travis Copenhaver, the zoning officer called attention to the matter at the recent planning commission meeting. The correction would remove section D.1.C in “Related to Mobile Homes,” and replace it with the resolution.

Concerning recreational home placement, Copenhaver stated that the section currently reads, “Shall be installed in accordance with manufactured home placement requirements and all other flood reduction requirements contained in this ordinance.”

The resolution would change that section to say, “Shall be in accordance with all other flood reduction requirements contained in this ordinance.” After a brief discussion, the council moved to approve the verbiage change.

Another project on the agenda was the Lee Street project. Due to major changes involving runoff water, a containment system must be implemented for the new storm drains being installed as part of the new elementary school.

The council voted to start work on the storm drain project, which is similar to what was previously done on Spring Street. After discussion, the motion passed.

In other news, the council discussed and approved a Flat Mountain Road flood mitigation project.

The Alderson City Council meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building.
