TABOR
12/14/1943 to 7/27/2022
Ruth Kirby Tabor (AKA: Smokey) of Vinton, VA, went on her journey unexpectedly on July 27, 2022. She was born in Fort Springs, WV, and was raised on a dairy farm.
She is preceded in death by her father, John Kirby; mother, Wanda Kirby; two sisters, Ann Patton and June spells; and one brother, Joe Kirby.
She is survived by her son, Dean Tabor; daughter, Pam Leggiero (Bart Leggiero); and one granddaughter, Cameron Leggiero. She also leaves behind three sisters, Mary Nunnery, Nancy Thompson, and Ginny Grimm. She had numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and one special niece, Beth Wickline.
She was a store manager at Wrangler Ranch for many years and enjoyed doing various crafts and sewing. She then moved to Florida in February, 1998, and started flipping houses, which she very much enjoyed. She came back to Virginia in 2004 and retired. She loved helping take care of her granddaughter, and she had 2 cats, Snooki and Snuggles, and a Siberian Husky, Hatsune, that she dearly loved and spoiled.
She loved the outdoors, doing yard work, and taking care of her plants and wild animals. She loved being a mom and grandma. There was never anything she could not do. She always sacrificed for her family and put them first.
In her later years, she enjoyed talking on the phone with her sisters each night and watching westerns and college basketball. She enjoyed being on Facebook and posting pictures of her animals and seeing everyone else’s pictures. She will be sorely missed for a very long time by her family.
Graveside services will be held at Green Hill Cemetery in Union, WV, on August 6, 2022 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gene Fullen officiating.
McCraw Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of the arrangements.
