The Rainelle Town Council met in a regular session on Monday, June 27. The meeting began with announcements, including welcoming a new police officer and reopening the town pool following some necessary repairs. Additionally, Mayor Robin Williams reminded the town that fireworks fall under the town’s noise ordinance and are not to be set off during dedicated quiet time between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.
After the announcement and the reading and approval of the town bills, the council turned to a new ordinance. This ordinance is regarding repeated requests by citizens to be allowed to drive ATVs/four-wheelers on the roadways within the municipality. After extensive discussion and public meetings, the council has introduced a new ordinance to allow ATCs and UTVs on town roads. The June 27 meeting served as the first official reading of the ordinance.
In other news, Williams, city recorder Bill Bell, and police chief J.P. Stevens met with the Division of Highways regarding continued high water issues on the James River Kanawha Turnpike. According to Williams, DOH has agreed to look into a temporary solution until the completion of the storm drain project, which remains on schedule.
The council will meet again on July 11 at 7 p.m. All meetings are streamed through Facebook Live on the town’s Facebook page.
