RICHWOOD (WVDN) – Monongahela National Forest invites everyone to join them at Cranberry Mountain Nature Center for a native orchid tour, Saturday, June 25, and Scenic Drive Day, Sunday, June 26.
The native orchid tour begins Saturday, June 25, at 10 a.m. in the Nature Center with a photo presentation followed by a guided trip to Cranberry Glades and surrounding area to look for orchids in the field. The program is free, will happen rain or shine and reservations are not required. Rosanna Springston, Monongahela National Forest employee, former Cranberry Mountain Nature Center staffer and wildflower enthusiast, will lead the native orchid tour.
Scenic Drive Day includes a classic car cruise-in at the nature center from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 26. Come see the cars or bring your own. Anyone wishing to display their car should arrive by 12:45 and leave their car on display until 3 p.m. when prizes will be awarded. If you would like to take the scenic drive from Richwood to the nature center in caravan with other classic car enthusiasts, meet at Richwood City Hall in Richwood at 11:45. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy Music on Cranberry Mountain with The Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys at the nature center’s picnic shelter beginning at 1 p.m.
Cranberry Mountain Nature Center is open Thursdays through Mondays, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays). The center features a display area with live snakes, wildflowers, interactive children’s displays and animals of West Virginia. There is also a nature store with books, clothing and toys.
