As the regular season starts to wind down, the Greenbrier East Spartans are doing what they can to prepare for sectional play beginning next week.
However, on Wednesday, May 4, the Spartans suffered a 4-1 loss to George Washington in a game that will only prepare them even more for post season play.
Greenbrier East Spartans Varsity stayed in it until the end, but George Washington pulled away late.
The game was tied at 1-all with the Patriots batting in the bottom of the sixth when Jaeden Anderson homered on a 2-2 count that scored two runs.
Eli Ellis earned the win for George Washington. He lasted 6.2 innings, allowed four hits and one run while striking out 12.
Bryson Hoff threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Darris Boswell took the loss for Greenbrier East. Boswell surrendered four runs on five hits over six innings and struck out two hitters.
Chris Heaster led the Spartans with two hits in three at bats.
East will conclude their regular season this Friday, May 6, at home against Independence.
