When tournament play begins, a whole new season does as well, and the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans took that to heart and made quick work of the Oak Hill Lady Red Devils in the Region 3, Section 2 first round game.
The Spartans got off to a fast start enroute to an easy 12-1 win and secure another game in the process.
Greenbrier East fired up the offense in the first inning when Aubrey Glover led off the frame with a long double. Brooke Davis came up next and drove Glover in on an RBI single and a 1-0 East lead.
Two batters later, Josi Ervin doubled home Riley Norman who had gotten on base with a base hit. Jenna Groves had an RBI groundout and Alanis McClary capped the scoring with an RBI base hit that plated Ervin for a 5-0 Spartan lead.
And that offense was more than enough for Ervin on the mound.
She pitched the team to victory and complemented the offense beautifully. The southpaw went four innings, allowed zero runs on one hit, struck out five and walked just one.
Haley Byars threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Krista Shrewsberry took the loss for Oak Hill. Shrewsberry was tagged for 12 runs on 13 hits over four innings but did strike out six hitters.
Greenbrier East totaled 13 hits in the game.
Davis, Ervin, Taylor Boswell, Alanis Mcclary, and Rylee Norman all collected multiple hits.
Ervin and Davis each collected three hits to lead the team.
The first five hitters in the Spartan lineup went a combined 11-for-14 with 11 runs scored and eight RBIs.
The Spartans did not commit a single error in the field. East also stole four bases during the game. Glover and Davis led the way with two each.
