LEWISBURG (WVDN) – Superstar pitching was on display at the Lady Spartan softball field when East starter Josi Ervin battled Shady Spring ace Paige Maynard.
The Spartans (10-9) lost 2-0 in the duel but had a lot to be proud of pitching-wise and defensively.
Both teams were strong in the pitcher’s circle on Thursday, April 28, but Shady Spring was just a little bit stronger at the plate.
In the top of the fourth inning, Olivia Barnett ripped an RBI double and the very next batter, Maynard, helped her own cause with an RBI single.
And that would be all the offense for either team, all night.
A single by Brooke Davis in the seventh inning broke up Maynard’s no-hit bid and was the only hit for East in the game.
Maynard went seven innings, allowed zero runs on one hit, struck out 13 batters.
Ervin took the loss for Greenbrier East, but was stellar as mentioned above. She went the whole seven innings as well, gave up the two runs two runs on just four hits and struck out 10.
Davis went 1-for-3 at the dish.
Barnett led Shady Spring with three hits in three at bats.
Shady Spring Tigers Varsity did not commit a single error in the field.
