PRINCETON (WVDN) – For the second time this season, the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans shutout the Princeton Tigers in impressive fashion, this time 15-0 on Monday night, April 11, in Princeton.
Lilly Carola did not allow a run over her four innings of work. She gave up just one hit and struck out seven.
East secured the victory thanks to 10 runs in the third inning, which propelled them to the four-inning mercy rule.
The offensive onslaught was fueled by Olivia Plybon who singled home Brooke Davis. Carola then helped her own cause and knocked Lindsey Black home with a single and Josi Ervin then followed suit with an RBI base hit that scored Carola.
Aubrey Glover (double), Davis (double) and Black (2-run home run) all knocked in runs in the inning.
A single by Abigail Jenkins in the fourth inning broke up Carola’s no-hit bid and was the only hit all night for the Tigers.
Hayden Jones took the loss for Princeton on the mound. The righty went 2.2 innings, allowed eight runs on seven hits and struck out two, as the Spartans jumped on her early and often.
The Spartans racked up 11 hits on the day.
Black went 3-for-3 at the plate. Ervin was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI’s. Plybon went 2-for-4. East stole 18 bases during the game as six players stole more than one. Davis led the way with three.
With the victory, East improves to 6-4 on the season. They will host Independence this Wednesday, April 13.
