BECKLEY (WVDN) – The Greenbrier East Spartans traveled to Woodrow Wilson on Monday night, April 4 and came back home with an important early season 8-3 victory.
The Spartans got things started in the second inning when Isiah Brooks was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Ian Cline came around to score.
In the top of the fourth inning, with the Spartans down 3-2, East tied things up at 3-all when Clayton Morgan blasted a solo home run to left field.
East took the lead and never looked back with one run in the fifth inning. In that frame, Jacob Roshau doubled on a 1-2 count and scored Chris Heaster who had gotten on base with a base hit of his own.
Roshau earned the win for the Spartans. The lefty lasted six innings, allowed four hits and zero earned runs and fanned nine batters. Heaster threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Travis Daniel suffered the loss on the mound for Woodrow Wilson. Daniel lasted 1.2 innings, allowed three hits and three runs while striking out one.
Logan Williams started the game for Woodrow Wilson. Williams lasted four innings and gave up just one hit but allowed three runs and had four strikeouts. Williams was coming off a very strong weekend when he struck out 14 in six innings.
East racked up eight hits.
Morgan, Roshau, and Heaster all had multiple hits. Morgan went 3-for-3 at the plate including his homer to lead Greenbrier East.
Ty Evans led Woodrow Wilson with two hits in three at bats.
The Spartans are now 4-6 on the season and will host Riverside this Wednesday, April 6.
