LEWISBURG (WVDN) – The Lewisburg Fire Department and police department both presented to the Lewisburg City Council during the regular March meeting, giving their most recent reports.
Before the presentations however, Lieutenant Jonathan Hughes was promoted to deputy chief by council.
Lewisburg Mayor Beverly White said, “we know that he would do an outstanding job for our city, and we’re so blessed to have him on our police force.”
Hughes also gave the police report, as police chief Chris Teubert was not present.
The February police department report notes that there were 220 calls for service. Hughes “met with Second Chance for Recovery” program through Seneca Health Services and will serve as their law enforcement liaison. Justin Deeds had his first day as patrolman.
Hughes thanked council for its support while giving the police report. “The city of Lewisburg is a great place to work, and I’m grateful for the promotion.”
Council also voted to hire Joshua Stevens and Jonathan Cosby for the police department. Stevens is a certified officer, while Cosby will need to become certified. City administrator Misty Hill noted Cosby had already “completed everything.”
The Lewisburg Fire Department report highlighted 78 emergency calls in February, with 45 in city limits. This includes:
– two structure fires
– one vehicle fire
– one brush fire
– 12 motor vehicle accidents
– 41 medical calls
– nine automatic fire alarms
– one carbon monoxide alarm with no cause found

The report also states the fire department “hosted a 16-hour strategy and tactics for initial company officer (STICO) class on March 5 and 6. The goal of the course is to develop the management skills needed by Company Officers (COs) to accomplish assigned tactics for structure fires. We had 18 of our members in attendance for the class along with five additional members from other fire departments.”
