The Greenbrier East Spartans football team had an 8-2 record this past season and advanced to the state playoffs where they hosted George Washington in the first round.
The Spartans season ended that night, but 2021 still ranks as one of the better and more successful seasons in the school’s history.
On Sunday, Mar. 20, the Spartans held their annual awards banquet dinner at the Quality Inn and honored several student athletes.
The list of the winners are as follows: freshman class-Donavin Penn; sophomore class-Garon Wiseman; junior class-Luke Carola; senior class-Braden Bragg.
Outstanding offensive scout-Gavin Bennett and C.W. Sturgell; outstanding defensive scout-Cody Jenkins and Blake Greene; Mr. Dependable-Bryson Ormsbee; most improved-Levi Wagner and Seth Fogus; Spartan character-Aiden Cole.
Best offensive lineman-Jacob Wickline; offensive skill-Lucas McCallister; best defensive lineman-Landon Hayes; defensive skill-Jarett McHale; unsung hero-Jake Pate; heart and hustle-Garrett Bennett.
Coaches award-Monquelle Davis; outstanding special teams-Noah Dotson; outstanding offense-Ian Cline; outstanding defense-Kamon Anderson; outstanding overall player-J.T. Spencer.
