Hope you’re wearing green! It’s St. Patrick’s Day, and family-friendly fun can be found across the two Virginias in the shape of two tiny parades.
In Lewisburg, the Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade on the East Coast begins, and ends, at 5:30 p.m. Participants will parade from Amy’s Market in Montwell Park across the parking lot to Hill and Holler. This Lewisburg tradition continues with Ted Gosnell leading the parade. Local troubadour Patrick O’Flaherty will be performing traditional Irish tunes at Hill and Holler from 3-9 p.m. Both Amy’s Market and Hill and Holler will feature holiday specials as well. Parade line-up starts at 4:30 p.m. at Amy’s Market.
Across the border in Clifton Forge, the Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Virginia will stretch from the garden at Church Street across the street to the Masonic Amphitheater. Join the parade or have fun as a spectator as bagpipes accompany the parade and the annual “ugliest knees” competition is held after the parade. Parade begins at 5:30 p.m.
Finally, those with an affinity for the Catholic traditions of Ireland can enjoy fish dinners in White Sulphur Springs every Friday through April at St. Thomas Episcopal Church Butler Hall on West Main Street. Dinners are offered to go, although there is limited seating available. Dinners are available Friday evenings on Mar. 18 and 25, and April 1, 8, 22 and 29 and consist of tilapia, scalloped potatoes, Coleslaw, hard roll, sauces, desert and drink, and utensils.
For more information on the fish dinners, call the office of the Catholic Churches of the Greenbrier Valley 304-536-1813 or the Knights of Columbus at 304-645-1373.
