Please vote for the WV Daily News Greenbrier East and Greenbrier West Diamond Players of the Week for the week of April 8-13. Two players from each team in the county (GE baseball, GE softball, GW baseball, and GW softball) are all listed together. We will take the top vote getter from each school and announce the winners on Monday nights (time may vary week-to-week). Again, there will be a winner from each school. Voting this week closes Monday, April 15, 2024, at 4:00 PM.
NOMINEES:
Gavin Bennett- 6-14 (.428), 4 runs, double, 6 RBIs at the plate. On the mound- 11 IP, 10 H, 10 Ks in a 2-2 week for East.
Zion Detko- Consistent hitter all week. Hit .615, scored 6 runs, had a double and a triple, and 2 RBIs.
Hailey Ervin- Went 9-15 for a .600 average. Scored 8 runs, had a triple, and 5 RBIs. Helped Spartans average 15.2 runs for the 4-game week.
Lily Carola- Got the nod here for her pitching and offense. On the mound, pitched 9.2 innings, allowed just 5 hits, 3 ER, and struck out 15. At the plate, went 6-9 with a HR and a double. Also scored 8 runs and drove in 5 more.
Maddie Fields- .333 with 2 runs scored, 2 triples, and 5 RBIs in a 1-1 week for the Lady Cavs.
Julia Herndon- Hit .400, scored 3 runs, and had a double. Also stole 2 bases.
Braydon McClung- In the stats reported (1 game), went 1-3 and was one of just two Cavs with a hit in a loss to James Monroe.
David Lester- Went a perfect 1-1 against the Mavericks plus drew a walk. Was the other Cav with a hit. –(Only 1 game of stats available)
