We are less than a month away from tip-off for the 2021-22 Greenbrier East Spartans boys basketball season and the community is eagerly awaiting December 10, the Spartans first game against the Bluefield Beavers.
The Spartans will look a bit different this year and that starts with a new head coach, Jared Patton. Patton was an assistant for Bimbo Coles, for the last several years, but Coles decided to take a job in Florida which left the door open for Patton to slide in after some initial controversy and confirmation meetings.
East finished 10-4 last season.
Patton and the Spartans will take on what seems like a fairly difficult schedule on paper, but will still feel sort of familiar as a lot of the same teams East normally plays shows back up this year.
December 17 against Woodrow Wilson is sure to be a packed house as they always are against the Eagles. Other tough games for East will be Greater Beckley Christian, South Charleston, Cabell Midland, Huntington and Shady Spring. Bluefield, Oak Hill and Princeton will provide challenges as well.
The Spartans new coaching staff looks forward to seeing all the fans beginning December 10.
