Wellness in the community through movement. That is the mission of local business Bodies in Motion. Here, patrons can get moving with classes in Pilates, yoga, barre and more. Each class is hosted by one of six instructors, including the owner Andrea Karrs.
Karrs began her journey with a degree in biology from Virginia Tech. She then went on to earn a Master’s degree in Education. Afterward, Karrs attended WVU School of Medicine where she gained a degree in Physical Therapy. Now, not only is she a licensed physical therapist, but she is also a “certified group fitness instructor and personal trainer with The American Council on Exercise (ACE); and a Certified Pilates Instructor through Balanced Body.” Karrs also has a background in dance which, according to her bio, “facilitates her clients’ spatial awareness.”
When it comes to Pilates, which is Karrs’ specialty, she began her training at the American Dance Festival. She has since completed her training for “Pilates Mat, Reformer and Chair.”
Since opening Bodies in Motion in 2014, Karrs provides classes in Pilates and Barre. The other five instructors provide classes in various types of yoga. This includes slow mindful yoga and yoga for all levels, among others.
There are many different variations of yoga. This includes methods such as Ashaya, which is instructor Erin Hurst’s specialty. Ashaya is all about alignment with several therapeutic yoga techniques. Hurst is quoted in her bio as saying, “If you have a body, you can do yoga!” Her class is for all levels with an emphasis on beginners.
Other instructors include Sally Bray, who focuses on both the physical and mental aspects of yoga; Mary Viqueras, who holds certifications in Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga; Eden McGuffin, who recently completed her 500 hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT); Jeri Via, who helps her students in “understanding of the yoga principles, postures, modifications to postures and breathing techniques.” Together, the instructors at Bodies in Motion strive to provide wellness to the community through motion.
In addition to group classes, Bodies in Motion also offers private sessions. A one-hour private session costs $75 with packages available for three and five sessions for $215 and $350 respectively. For group classes, a single, drop-in class costs $16 with discounts available for multi-class packages. Enrollment for group classes as well as signups for private sessions is available on the Bodies in Motion website. The process is quick and simple.
The studio is located at 259 Lafayette Street in Lewisburg and is open six days per week. Classes are available Monday through Saturday. The studio is closed on Sundays.
