A Raleigh County man and female companion are now at Southern Regional Jail after an alleged copper theft from the Beckley Lowe’s Home Improvement store.
According to the criminal complaint filed in Raleigh County, Jacob Wayne Holstein, 26, of Surveyor entered Lowe’s on North Eisenhower Drive back on Sept. 24 with Stephanie Leeann Thornquest, 27.
The couple “selected two large spools of copper wire as well as some copper piping,” the complaint states. They left the store without paying for the copper materials and got into a cab.
During the investigation, officers with the Beckley Police Department determined the amount of stolen goods to be $2,172.90. They were able to speak with the cab driver who stated that he picked the couple up and took them to Lowe’s, the complaint continues. Once they exited Lowe’s they asked the driver to take them to a couple of local junk/scrap yards.
At one of the scrapyards, the couple was seen on video footage bringing the copper into the facility. The female signed the scrap ticket using her name, the complaint alleges.
Holstein was booked at Southern Regional Jail on Nov. 11 on a felony charge of grand larceny. His surety/cash bond was set at $100,000.
Thornquest was booked at Southern Regional Jail on Oct.19. No bond was set.
