A Greenbrier County man was arrested on Sunday evening, October 31 after allegedly destroying property and assaulting another man. John Zachary Brown, 38, of Crawley, has been charged with destruction of property, domestic assault and domestic battery.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m., deputies with the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department responded to a Crawley residence to investigate reports of a disturbance. The suspect, later identified as John Zachary Brown, had reportedly left the area in a vehicle prior to the deputies’ arrival. Once at the residence, deputies spoke with the victimized family. Family-members advised deputies that the suspect had been staying at their home while awaiting an upcoming court date.
According to the criminal complaint, victims further advised deputies that, “Brown was trying to find a firearm and had become suicidal as he was not going back to jail again. [ ] Brown then became irate and hit (male victim) knocking his glasses off of his face. (male victim) further stated that Mr. Brown hit the television and broke it with his fist.”
After the altercation, Brown reportedly “found his keys to leave the residence.”
John Zachary Brown is currently being held at Southern Regional Jail in lieu of a $6,000 cash-bond or surety.
