CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – State Treasurer Larry Pack was in Charleston on Tuesday where he presented nearly $42,000 in unclaimed property funds to the Education Alliance.
“The Education Alliance plays an important role in supporting students, educators and schools across West Virginia, and we are proud to return nearly $42,000 to an organization dedicated to strengthening education in our state,” Treasurer Pack said. “This is a significant amount of money that can be put back to work supporting their mission. It’s a great example of why our Unclaimed Property Division works so hard to reunite individuals, businesses and organizations with money that rightfully belongs to them.”
Treasurer Pack presented $41,899.75 to the Education Alliance on Tuesday afternoon. The unclaimed property money came from liquidated shares and dividends.
“Every day, the Education Alliance works to mobilize school-business partnerships that help West Virginia students succeed. Thanks to the leadership of State Treasurer Larry Pack and his team, we are thrilled to have recovered $40,000 in unclaimed property,” Dr. Amelia Courts, President & CEO, the Education Alliance, said. “Every dollar makes a difference in advancing our mission, and we are excited to put these resources to work creating brighter futures for West Virginia students.”
Last month, the Treasurer’s Office returned more than $2.4 million to individuals, businesses and organizations across West Virginia.
The State Treasurer’s Office has more than $530 million worth of listings in its database statewide. There are nearly 568,000 unclaimed property listings worth more than $82.6 million in Kanawha County.
Since the start of Fiscal Year 2027, which began on July 1, 2026, the Treasurer’s Office has returned nearly $9.4 million to rightful owners.
