LEWISBURG, W.Va (WVDN) – Carnegie Hall invites community members to explore the timeless art of basket weaving in the Leather Handled Tote Basket workshop on Friday, October 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Led by regional artisan Kathy Talley, this beginner‑friendly class offers participants the chance to learn foundational weaving techniques while creating a sturdy, stylish tote perfect for errands, farmers markets, or home décor.
In this hands‑on workshop, students will weave a versatile basket enhanced with durable leather handles—combining traditional craftsmanship with everyday functionality. All materials and tools are provided, and the class welcomes learners ages 16 and older. With a maximum class size of 10, participants will enjoy personalized instruction and a relaxed, supportive environment ideal for first‑time weavers.
The workshop fee is $90 for members and $105 for nonmembers, with special scholarships available for adults over 50, reducing the cost to just $45. Early registration is encouraged due to limited space and strong interest in Appalachian craft programming.
The Leather Handled Tote Basket workshop is part of Carnegie Hall’s ongoing commitment to offering enriching, hands‑on arts experiences that celebrate regional traditions and inspire creativity across generations.
