LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – New River Community and Technical College’s Associate Degree Nursing program has earned initial accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), marking an important milestone for the college and its commitment to high-quality nursing education.

The ACEN Board of Commissioners made the decision at its September 2026 meeting. Initial accreditation was granted to New River CTC’s Associate Degree Nursing Program, including all program options reviewed. The next evaluation visit is scheduled for spring 2031. ACEN accreditation recognizes the program’s commitment to established standards of nursing education. For students, this recognition highlights the program’s focus on educational quality and preparing graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to enter the nursing profession.

“Earning ACEN accreditation is a significant achievement for New River Community and Technical College and reflects our commitment to providing high-quality nursing education,” said Dr. Bonny Copenhaver, President of New River CTC. “This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our nursing faculty and staff, who work tirelessly to prepare students for successful careers in healthcare. More importantly, it reinforces our commitment to our students and to meeting the growing need for skilled healthcare professionals throughout southern West Virginia.”

ACEN accreditation can help graduates stand out as they pursue nursing positions and begin their professional careers. It also reinforces New River CTC’s role in preparing qualified healthcare professionals to serve our communities.

“This is a great accomplishment for our nursing program,” said Staci Jordan, MSN, RN, nurse administrator at New River CTC. “There has been a lot of work behind the scenes to get to this point, and we are thankful for the faculty and staff who have helped make it happen. We are excited about what this means for our students and for the future of nursing education at the college.”
