FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. (WVDN) – State Treasurer Larry Pack was in Fayette County where he presented nearly $23,000 in unclaimed property funds to the Fayette County Commission, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Fayette County Board of Education, City of Fayetteville, City of Oak Hill and New River Health Association during the Office’s “Treasury Day.”
“Unclaimed property can make a meaningful difference when it’s returned to the organizations that serve our communities,” Treasurer Pack said. “We’re glad we were able to bring nearly $23,000 back to Fayette County and help these local entities – from law enforcement to health care organizations to schools. It’s important for them to be able to put these dollars toward the work they do for residents every day. We encourage more individuals, businesses and organizations to search our online database for unclaimed property because you never know what money is waiting for you.”
The entities received the following amounts in unclaimed property:
- Fayette County Commission: $7,000
- New River Health Association: $5,867.16
- Fayette County Board of Education: $3,270.76
- Town of Fayetteville: $3,134.78
- Fayette County Sheriff’s Office: $2,465.05
- City of Oak Hill: $1,086.68
The unclaimed property money came from stale dated checks, accounts payable and miscellaneous checks.
“It’s real exciting to have Treasurer Pack come and present this check to our staff here. I think it’s a wonderful program that the Unclaimed Property Division seeks out and return money to the people,” Fayette County Board of Education President Pat Gray said. “We’re glad to accept the check today and we’ll certainly put it to some beneficial use for the students of Fayette County.”
Last month, the Treasurer’s Office returned more than $2.4 million to individuals, businesses and organizations across West Virginia.
The State Treasurer’s Office has more than $530 million worth of listings in its database statewide. There are more than 92,000 unclaimed property listings worth more than $10.7 million in Fayette County.
Since the start of Fiscal Year 2027, which began on July 1, 2026, the Treasurer’s Office has returned nearly $9.4 million to rightful owners.
