WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (WVDN) — The Greenbrier Branch of the NAACP will host its annual Freedom Fund Dinner on Friday, October 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Schoolhouse Hotel at 125 Schoolhouse Way in White Sulphur Springs.
The annual dinner brings together NAACP members, community leaders, and supporters for an evening of fellowship and reflection while raising funds to support the work and operations of the Greenbrier Branch and the broader mission of the NAACP.
This year’s featured guest speaker will be Professor Burnis R. Morris, Carter G. Woodson Professor of Journalism and Mass Communications at Marshall University and director and co-founder of the Dr. Carter G. Woodson Lyceum. Professor Morris’s work focuses extensively on the life and legacy of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the history of the Black press, and the role of journalism in advancing public understanding. The Woodson Lyceum serves as a resource for the Tri-State region and promotes the study of Black history and the importance of a free press.
The evening will also honor Loretta Young, recognizing her longstanding commitment to community and public service. Young has devoted a lifetime to serving her community and has held leadership positions including President of the Greenbrier Branch NAACP and President of the West Virginia State NAACP Conference.
The Greenbrier Branch continues to focus on the NAACP’s work to empower voters and address discrimination and inequalities in health care, education, and justice. The Freedom Fund Dinner provides an important opportunity for the community to gather in support of that work.

Dinner tickets are $50 per person and may be purchased online through Eventbrite by searching eventbrite.com-greenbrierbranch3227b. Tickets may also be purchased by mailing a check to the Greenbrier Branch NAACP, P.O. Box 1224, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
Tickets should be purchased by October 2, 2026.
