LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – Carnegie Hall is delighted to open registration for its Fall 2026 Wheel Throwing Clay for Beginners class, a hands‑on introduction to wheel‑thrown ceramics led by regional artist and instructor Sean O’Connell. The seven‑session course meets on Tuesdays, September 29; October 6, 13, 20, 27; and November 3 and 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. There will be no class on November 10.
This engaging studio experience welcomes teens and adults ages 16 and up. Participants will learn how to prepare clay for throwing, center clay on the potter’s wheel, and create foundational vessel forms including cylinders, bowls, and plates. The class also introduces glazing and finishing techniques, giving students a complete start‑to‑finish understanding of working with earth‑based clay. With a maximum class size of eight, each student receives individualized guidance in a supportive, creativity‑focused environment where having fun is part of the process.
Wheel Throwing Clay for Beginners is offered as part of Carnegie Hall’s ongoing Classes & Workshops program, which provides enriching learning opportunities each spring and fall. These small‑group experiences are designed to inspire learners of all ages, and early registration is encouraged due to limited space.
Tuition for the course is $225 for Carnegie Hall members and $250 for nonmembers. Scholarships are available, and adults aged 50 and over may enroll for just $95. Students who already have a grasp of basic wheel techniques are invited to explore Wheel, Too!, the intermediate six‑week series offered separately.
