BEAVER, W.Va. (WVDN) – New River Community and Technical College will welcome new and returning students to campus on Thursday, Aug. 20, with Campus Connect and New Student Orientation events designed to help students prepare for a successful fall semester.
Campus Connect will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. simultaneously at all five New River CTC campus locations. The open house-style event gives students an opportunity to meet faculty and staff, connect with Financial Aid and Student Services, learn about campus resources and support services, and get questions answered before classes begin.
“Starting a new semester can be exciting, but it can also come with questions and uncertainty, especially for students who are new to college,” said Tammy Mills, Interim Director of Student Services. “Campus Connect gives students an opportunity to make those important connections before classes begin. We want every student to know that they have people at New River who are ready to support them and help them succeed.”
Immediately following Campus Connect, New River CTC will host New Student Orientation from 5 to 8 p.m. While the event is designed primarily for new students, returning students are also welcome to attend. Participants will learn what to expect during the semester, discover campus resources, meet faculty and staff, and receive information and tips to support their academic success.
“Orientation is an important first step in helping students understand what it means to be successful at New River CTC,” said Steve Lacek, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. “We want students to begin the semester with confidence and a clear understanding of the resources, expectations and opportunities available to them. Our faculty and staff are committed to helping students reach their educational goals from the very beginning.”
New Student Orientation will be available in person at all five New River CTC campuses and online, providing students with flexibility to participate in the format that works best for them. Students who choose to participate online will receive a Zoom link after registering.
Campus Connect and New Student Orientation will be held at the following locations:
- Advanced Technology Center: 527 Odd Road, Ghent, WV 25843
- Nicholas County Campus: 6101 Webster Road, Summersville, WV 26651
- Raleigh County Campus: 280 University Drive, Beaver, WV 25813
- Greenbrier Valley Campus: 653 Church Street, Lewisburg, WV 24901
- Mercer County Campus: 304 New Hope Road, Princeton, WV 24740
The fall semester begins Aug. 24, and New River CTC encourages students to take advantage of these opportunities to connect with the college community, ask questions and make sure they are prepared for the semester ahead. Students planning to attend are also encouraged to complete the online registration in advance.
