A Pocahontas County man is in jail after a July incident in which he allegedly provided alcohol to a minor before an accident led to the minor being injured. Robert James Long, 44, of Marlinton has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a child, as well as one count of child neglect resulting in injury.
On Friday, July 16, law enforcement was dispatched to the area of 6th Street in Marlinton in response to reports of “a juvenile that had been given alcohol and fell out of the back of a pickup truck.”
According to the criminal complaint, Long had been on a camping trip with a male juvenile, and the two had begun consuming beer at approximately 7 a.m. Upon the officers’ arrival, the juvenile reportedly advised that he and Long “were driving somewhere and he fell out of the back of the truck.” The juvenile further advised officers that he had consumed “about 24 beers.”
The juvenile reportedly suffered a concussion as a result of the incident.
Robert James Long is currently being held at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a surety/cash bond of $10,500.
