The old rough sawn tabernacle at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church will be the revival site during September 12 – 14.
The old tabernacle was constructed during the depression of the 1930s to provide seating for huge crowds during summer revival services. Each summer the tabernacle provided space for services until the mid-1950s when services were discontinued. In the early-1980s, maintenance was performed on the tabernacle, and annual revival services were started again.
This year’s revival will begin at 7 p.m. each night on September 12, 13 and 14. The speaker on September 12 will be Sam Groves with Lucy Raney providing the music. Mt. Vernon minister Rev. Jeffrey Kanode will deliver the message on September 13 with Tim McNair providing the music. Minister and Appalachian historian John Wyatt will speak on September 14 with Shannon Vance providing the inspiring music.
Join the congregation of Mt. Vernon for the service of God. Come expecting to be blessed.
In addition to the revival, Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church will be hosting a “Pie and Ice Cream Supper” on Saturday, September 11 at 5 p.m. The menu will consist of pork barbeque, hot dogs, various side dishes and several types of desserts. Proceeds will be used for church ministries. Excess food items, including pies, will be auctioned after the meal.
The church is located between Fort Spring and Sinks Grove on Mt. Vernon Road.
