CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) — In celebration of The National Bell Ringing Ceremony, West Virginia State Parks officials announced the Ringing of the Bell Ceremony will be held at Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park on Friday, July 3 at 3 p.m.
The ceremony honors those who made sacrifices during the War for Independence, the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and those who serve today to defend American liberty.
“We are excited to invite every West Virginian and all of the Mountain State’s visitors to take part in the Ringing of the Bell Ceremony and celebrate the incredible history of Blennerhassett Island, West Virginia and the United States,” said West Virginia State Parks Acting Chief Dillard Price. “Whether you’re a history buff or just wanting to take this opportunity to experience a special Independence Day celebration, this event will bring it all together in a historically accurate setting.
The National Bell Ringing Ceremony, often called the “Let Freedom Ring Ceremony,” is observed each year to encourage Americans to ring bells in celebration of Independence Day. This year’s celebration coincides with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Visitors who want to participate in the ceremony must board the Island Belle Sternwheeler by 2 p.m. The ride is free for event attendees and the final return trip back to the mainland will depart the island at 5:30 pm. For more information about this event, visit WVstateparks.com/events.
