BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WVDN) – State Treasurer Larry Pack was in Bridgeport on Tuesday to present more than $19,000 in unclaimed property funds to five solid waste authorities after delivering the keynote speech during the West Virginia Solid Waste Authority Spring Conference.

“Our Solid Waste Authorities are local public entities responsible for managing waste systems at the county and regional level, and they operate primarily on assessment fees collected on waste disposal. Those funds are processed and distributed through the State Treasurer’s Office, so there’s already a natural connection between the work they are doing on the ground and my Office’s role in safeguarding and managing public funds,” Treasurer Pack said. “We are thrilled to return these unclaimed funds to these authorities. We have more than $500 million that belongs to the people and businesses of the Mountain State, so I encourage everyone to check our online database to see if some of that money belongs to you or your family.”

Treasurer Pack presented the Association of West Virginia Solid Waste Authorities with a $475.00 unclaimed property check. The other four checks were presented to the Jefferson County Solid Waste Authority ($7,478.64), the Lewis Gilmer Solid Waste Authority ($4,911.80), the Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority ($4,862.60), and the Fayette County Solid Waste Authority ($1,764.48).

“We appreciate Treasurer Pack’s efforts to return these funds to our communities,” said Kelly Vickers, Business and Financial Assistant Manager at the WV Solid Waste Management Board. “Our Solid Waste Authorities will put them to immediate use—supporting equipment upgrades, facility improvements, and expanded recycling efforts that directly benefit the citizens they serve.”

The Treasurer’s Office has more than $524 million worth of unclaimed property listings in its database.

Since the start of Fiscal Year 2026, which began on July 1, 2025, the Treasurer’s Office has returned more than $27.3 million to rightful owners.
